The marvelous scenery of the Falls pouring down along the granite zone.

Sambuyeon Falls, located in the granite area on the middle of Mount Myeongseong (870 meters), is a three-stage waterfall measuring about 20 meters high. It has been formed by the water cutting(eroding) down the granite, after it was revealed on the surface, in the Cretaceous period. The age of granite that composes the waterfall is estimated to be about 110 million years old (Hwang Jae-ha and Kim Yu-bong, 2007). The word Sambuyeon Waterfall is created by using the word "bu" which means cauldron, as the water stream is broken three times and the lower part of the waterfall is dented like a cauldron. The person who named this waterfall Sambu-yeon was Kim Chang-sok (1653-1722), a Confucian scholar and poet of the early Joseon Dynasty.
